John Mitchell leads Applied Marketing Science, Inc., a boutique research and consulting firm that helps clients use customer insights to develop new products, design new services, and create new customer experiences. John’s career spans nearly 20 years of market research, marketing strategy, innovation, and management consulting. He specializes in medical and diagnostic devices, and has served firms including Boston Scientific, Bayer Healthcare, Johnson & Johnson, Getinge Group, Stryker Corporation, and Edwards Lifesciences. His teams have helped clients develop a positioning strategy for a new mechanical ventilator, identify new product opportunities in interventional radiology labs, optimize pricing and features for an intracardiac monitoring system, and identify the needs of clinicians and caregivers administering enteral nutrition. He has also trained and coached hundreds of AMS clients to develop their in-house insight capabilities. His work spans the US market, as well as South America, Europe and Asia. Outside of work, John volunteers frequently with Habitat for Humanity of Greater Lowell and Appalachia Service Project to help alleviate poverty housing. He is an adult leader in the Boy Scouts of America, a youth-softball coach, an amateur musician, and a skilled woodworker. John holds an A.B. in government from Harvard College, and an M.B.A. in management and finance, with Distinction, from New York University’s Leonard N. Stern School of Business.
